- Ziti or Penne Noodles
- Mozzarella Cheese
- Parmesan Cheese
- 1 Pound of Ground Turkey
- Pasta Sauce or 4 Cheese Pasta Sauce
- Hunt’s Tomato Paste
Follow the package instructions for cooking your noodles. Some packages suggest more water needed to boil than others. When waiting for the water to boil, I added a couple teaspoons of salt to the water, just enough to add a little taste to the noodles. Once the noodles were added to the boiling water I could taste whether or not enough salt was added. If the noodles still taste very bland after boiling then I suggest adding a little more salt. You don’t want salty noodles but you also want to avoid bland noodles.
As the noodles are cooking, add enough water to a saucepan that the water just covers the entire bottom of the pan. Next, add your ground turkey, if you are cooking for multiple people I suggest using 2 pounds of ground turkey. If your ground turkey was frozen, thaw it out before cooking it in the saucepan. Cut your ground turkey into small pieces as it cooks in the saucepan. You can have the sauce pan heat on medium-high. You want the ground turkey to continue to cook until most of the water boils out of the pan and continue to flip the ground turkey as it cooks so that each side is cooked evenly. Once most of the water has boiled out turn off the stove.
Next add the pasta sauce and the tomato paste to the cooked ground turkey. Stir the sauce and meat together until it is evenly mixed. When your noodles have finished cooking, turn off the stove and then drain the water from the noodles.
Next grab your cooking pan and spray it with non-stick spray. Then layer the bottom of the cooking pan with your ground turkey and sauce mixture, just enough to cover the bottom evenly. Then add a layer of the pasta on top. Next add mozzarella cheese on top of the pasta, covering the whole layer of pasta evenly. Then add another layer of ground turkey and sauce mixture, followed by another layer of pasta and then another layer of cheese. If you like your pasta to be extra cheesy, you can add another layer of cheese right after the ground turkey mixture before you add another layer of pasta.
Repeat this layering process until you have used all of your resources. The last layer should be mozzarella cheese on top of the pasta. On top of the last layer, sprinkle on some Parmesan cheese. Finally, turn the oven on 350 degrees F. Once the oven has warmed, put the baked ziti into the oven for about 10-12 minutes.
